Floventis Energy, the pioneering developer behind California's inaugural floating wind project, has inked a significant agreement with California Community Power (CC Power), a prominent community choice aggregator. The memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the two entities marks a significant step forward for the CADEMO project, set to introduce four 15-megawatt (MW) floating turbines near Vandenberg Space Force Base in northern Santa Barbara County.

The collaboration aims to propel the CADEMO project towards fruition, with commercial operations slated to commence as early as 2028. This timeline positions CADEMO ahead of other offshore wind ventures planned in federally leased waters off the California coastline.

Under the MOU, CC Power will play a pivotal role in elucidating the key cost drivers associated with offshore wind development. Additionally, the community choice aggregator will provide valuable assistance to Floventis Energy in organizing stakeholder engagements and integrating the perspectives of local community members into the project's framework.

"As California and the nation increasingly pivot towards renewable energy to achieve their climate objectives, the need for timely insights to inform offshore wind initiatives becomes paramount," commented Mikael Jakobsson, director of CADEMO.

Upon completion, the CADEMO project is poised to generate approximately 200 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually. To mitigate potential off-take costs, both Floventis Energy and CC Power have committed to seeking grants, incentives, and other forms of support.

The partnership between Floventis Energy and CC Power underscores a shared commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions while fostering community engagement and collaboration.
