GE Vernova to Power Australia’s BESS Project

17 Sep 2024
GE Vernova has been chosen by Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners to deliver an integrated Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for Stage 2 of the Supernode Storage Project in Queensland, Australia. The second stage of the project will feature 250 MW/1,000 MWh of storage capacity, making it one of the largest battery storage installations in the country.

This follows GE Vernova's earlier win for Stage 1, where the company is integrating a 250 MW/500 MWh storage system. Once completed, the Supernode project will have a total capacity of 750 MW, positioning it as a key player in supporting Australia's energy transition by enabling efficient storage of wind and solar power.

Ed Torres, Business Leader of GE Vernova's Solar & Storage Solutions, highlighted the importance of the project, saying, "We believe GE Vernova's product portfolio, engineering expertise, and project delivery capabilities align perfectly with the needs of the Supernode project."

GE Vernova will oversee the supply and commissioning of power conditioning systems, SCADA systems, and other critical integration services to ensure seamless operation of the large-scale storage system. The company is positioned as a trusted technology partner for large grid-scale BESS projects both in Australia and globally.

Quinbrook is a leading investment manager specializing in renewable energy, energy storage, and grid infrastructure, with projects across the U.S., UK, and Australia.
