Germany and Türkiye Strengthen Energy Cooperation with $100 Billion Renewables Focus

28 Nov 2024
At the German-Turkish Energy Forum held in Berlin, Germany and Türkiye outlined plans to deepen cooperation in renewable energy and decarbonization. Robert Habeck, German Vice-Chancellor and Economy and Climate Minister, praised Türkiye's renewable ambitions and strategic role as an energy partner, citing shared goals in advancing sustainable energy projects.

Türkiye's Energy and Natural Resources Minister, Alparslan Bayraktar, unveiled a roadmap for achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Plans include $100 billion in renewable energy investments by 2035, targeting an increase in wind and solar capacity from 31,000 MW to 120,000 MW. Additionally, Türkiye's Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant is expected to supply 10% of the country's electricity needs.

Several agreements were signed, including collaborations between Enercon and Turkish firms Iş Enerji and Polat Enerji to supply and install 2,500 MW of wind turbines for projects in Türkiye and the region.

Both nations aim to build on their decade-long partnership, focusing on renewable energy, green hydrogen, and energy efficiency to bolster their energy transitions.
