Afghanistan Boosts Electricity Capacity with Nur-ul-Jihad Substation Project

Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), Afghanistan's power utility company, has officially launched the construction of the Nur-ul-Jihad substation in Herat province. The primary objective of this project, as reported by the Afghan news channel Ariana News, is to increase the capacity for transmitting electricity from Turkmenistan.

The Ministry of Energy and Water of Afghanistan is taking the lead on this project, collaborating closely with the Government of Turkmenistan. The estimated cost of the endeavor stands at $3.5 million, and it is being financed by the Afghan ministry.

Officials from DABS in Herat have affirmed that upon completion of the project, the power transmission capacity will see a significant rise, going from 70 megawatts to 110 megawatts. Additionally, a new booster transformer will be installed to help alleviate power shortages in the province.

Turkmenistan's officials have indicated that the project is anticipated to be completed within six months. A representative from the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan has expressed unwavering commitment to ensuring the project's execution with the highest quality and within the stipulated timeframe for its intended use.

In a related development, officials from the Turkmen State Electricity Corporation Türkmenenergo and DABS held a meeting last month to discuss the Nur-ul-Jihad substation power supply expansion project. Following these negotiations, both parties reached a conditional agreement on various aspects of the project, signaling positive progress towards its successful implementation.
