Amazon Nears 1 GW of Wind Power in Sweden
Amazon is expanding its renewable energy portfolio in Europe with four new power purchase agreements (PPAs) for wind projects in Sweden, bringing its total carbon-free energy capacity in the country close to 1 GW.
The new agreements cover four wind farms being developed by Eolus AB and OX2 AB. Amazon has now invested in nine utility-scale wind energy projects in Sweden.
The company also signed a 600 MW PPA for the Gennaker offshore wind farm in Germany’s Baltic Sea. The agreement provides developer Skyborn Renewables with financial certainty to advance construction.
Amazon and other hyperscalers are increasingly securing carbon-free electricity to meet rapidly growing demand from data centers and AI infrastructure.
“The world needs more energy, and it needs that energy to be carbon-free, reliable, and affordable for everyone,” said Gulfem Toygar, country manager for Amazon Sweden.
The developments highlight the growing link between AI-driven electricity demand, renewable generation and long-term power procurement.
