Avangrid Starts Construction of Oregon Trail Solar Facility
Iberdrola has started construction of the Oregon Trail Solar project, a new photovoltaic facility in Gilliam County, Oregon, through its US subsidiary Avangrid. The solar farm will have a capacity of 57 MWdc (41 MWac) and is expected to begin operations in 2027.
The project will feature more than 100,000 solar panels and is designed to generate enough clean electricity to supply approximately 10,000 US households annually. Construction activities are supporting around 200 jobs and are expected to contribute to regional economic development through local taxes and community investment.
“Oregon Trail Solar will boost electrification in the United States, helping both to meet the growing demand for electricity with clean energy and to revitalise the local economy by creating jobs and economic activity in the area,” Iberdrola said in its announcement.
The facility will expand Avangrid’s renewable energy presence in Oregon and will be located next to the existing Pachwáywit Fields solar project, which has a capacity of 205 MWdc (162 MWac), and the Shutler Energy Storage battery facility with 41 MW of installed capacity and 82 MWh of storage.
Avangrid currently manages more than 2,500 MW of installed renewable generation capacity in Oregon. The company said the project supports efforts to strengthen US electricity infrastructure while meeting rising demand with lower-carbon energy sources.
