BBMB Achieves New Milestone in Daily Electricity Generation

The Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) has achieved a remarkable feat in the field of electricity generation by setting a new daily record of 615.14 lakh units on July 24, according to BBMB Chairman Nand Lal Sharma. This outstanding achievement surpasses the previous record of 604.24 lakh units, which was attained in August 2008. The success of BBMB in enhancing electricity generation highlights its commitment to meeting the region's growing power demands.

Notably, during the period of torrential rains from July 8 to July 1, BBMB demonstrated its prowess in managing water resources by effectively absorbing the floodwaters from the rivers Sutlej and Beas in its Bhakra and Pong dams, respectively. A staggering 4,45,037 cusec days (1,088 million cubic meters) of water were absorbed in Bhakra dam, while an impressive 6,25,554 cusec days (1,530 million cubic meters) of water were absorbed in Pong dam in just four days. BBMB's efficient water management played a pivotal role in reducing the impact of floods in Punjab and Haryana.

With the floodwaters receding in downstream areas, BBMB has now begun controlling the discharge of water from its dams, leading to the exceptional production of electricity. This accomplishment underscores BBMB's dedication to harnessing water resources effectively and contributing significantly to the region's power supply.
