Cypress Creek Energy Opens Solar Project in Yakima County
The Ostrea solar project has opened in Yakima County, Washington, following several years of development by Cypress Creek Energy.
The $180 million project covers approximately 275 acres and includes more than 200,000 solar panels. The facility is expected to operate for 30 years and supply electricity across Washington.
According to Mike Descenza, chief finance officer at Cypress Creek Energy, the project is expected to generate more than $13 million in local and state revenue.
“A third of those revenues are for state education. About a third is for local education uses, and then maybe the balance is for other state and local uses. So it's a real positive benefit of this project being here,” Descenza said.
Development involved coordination with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and EFSEC, including consideration of agricultural impacts.
Yakima County Commissioner Ladon Linde said the project adds electricity generation while agricultural land and the local economy remain important considerations.
