Quinbrook’s New Fund Backs UK Clean Energy Projects

Quinbrook, a specialist investment manager focused on energy and digital transition infrastructure, has announced the final close of its second Quinbrook Renewables Impact Fund (QRIF II), securing $701 million (£587 million) in investor commitments.

The fund exceeded its original $671 million (£500 million) target and will focus on renewable energy, energy storage, grid support infrastructure and clean transport projects across the United Kingdom and Ireland.

“Both the level of investor demand for QRIF II and the pace at which we reached our fundraising target underscore the strong and growing investor demand for high-quality, contracted clean energy infrastructure assets and businesses in the UK and Ireland,” said Mark Burrows, Managing Director and Head of Relationships and Fundraising, Europe at Quinbrook.

QRIF II builds on Quinbrook’s first Renewables Impact Fund, which closed in 2023. The new fund is designed to support projects aligned with the UK’s Clean Power 2030 objectives and Ireland’s goal of meeting 80% of electricity demand from renewable sources by 2030.

The portfolio includes several major energy transition projects, including the Mallard Pass Solar Project, a 373 MWdc solar development in England; the Wexford Synchronous Condenser Project in Ireland, which will provide grid stability services; Aegis Energy, a clean energy refuelling network for commercial vehicles; and Project Norton, a 65 MW solar and 41 MW battery storage project.

“Investors are increasingly focused on strategies that combine downside protection with meaningful exposure to the energy transition,” said Keith Gains, Managing Director and UK Regional Lead at Quinbrook.

Quinbrook said investments supported by QRIF II are expected to contribute to more than 2,300 jobs and avoid over 25 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions over the lifetime of the projects.
