Origis Energy Reaches 1 GW Milestone at Texas Solar and Storage Complex

Origis Energy has reached a 1 GW operational milestone at its Rockhound energy complex in Ector County, Texas, as part of a larger multi-phase development combining solar generation and battery energy storage. The company is developing the site as a 2 GW energy hub expected to include more than 1 GW of additional solar and storage capacity.

The complex includes several utility-scale solar projects, including the Greyhound A Solar project and the Rockhound portfolio, which together contribute to the site's operational capacity. The projects are being developed alongside additional solar and battery storage assets planned to come online in future phases.

The development is part of a broader expansion of renewable energy infrastructure in West Texas, where rising electricity demand from industrial growth and data centers has increased interest in large-scale power generation projects.

According to Origis Energy, the completed and planned projects at the site represent approximately $2.5 billion in infrastructure investment in Ector County and the surrounding region. The company expects the full energy complex to reach completion by 2029.

The Rockhound complex includes both solar photovoltaic (PV) generation and energy storage, allowing the facility to provide renewable electricity while adding flexibility to the power system.
