Prysmian Secures Eastern Green Link 4 Interconnector Contract

Prysmian has signed a contract valued at more than $2.5 billion (€2.3 billion) for the delivery of the Eastern Green Link 4 (EGL4) electrical interconnector project, the company announced on February 2, 2026.

The project is being developed by UK transmission owners SP Energy Networks and National Grid Electricity Transmission plc and will expand electricity transfer capacity between Scotland and England. Prysmian was selected as the preferred bidder in September 2025, with the agreement now formally added to the company’s project backlog.

Eastern Green Link 4 is a new high voltage direct current (HVDC) subsea cable system that will connect Fife in Scotland with Norfolk in England. Once operational, the interconnector will be able to transmit up to 2 gigawatts (GW) of renewable electricity—enough to supply approximately 2 million homes.

EGL4 is one of five planned projects aimed at significantly increasing north–south transmission capacity in the UK, supporting the integration of renewable power generated in Scotland into the wider British electricity network.

Commenting on the contract, Raul Gil, Executive Vice President for Transmission at Prysmian, said the UK continues to set benchmarks for future-ready electricity infrastructure through the use of subsea HVDC technology.

The agreement follows the earlier award of the Eastern Green Link 1 project to Prysmian, further strengthening the company’s role in major UK transmission developments.
