SPIE to Build Five Substations for TenneT Germany in Schleswig-Holstein
SPIE, a European provider of multi-technical services, will install five new high-voltage substations for TenneT Germany in Schleswig-Holstein under an eight-year bundled contract. The project starts in summer 2026, with phased commissioning continuing through 2033.
The substations, rated 380/110 kV, will be located in Büttel Süd, Stegau (Mehlbek), Hochwöhrden, Steinburg district, and Albersdorf. Each site will include multiple switchgear panels, supporting renewable energy integration and stabilizing the regional transmission grid.
The work is delivered by a consortium of SPIE, Matthäi, and Wiesensee, with SPIE responsible for technical management. Services include structural and civil engineering, steel construction, electrical installation, and support during commissioning and handover.
Bundled procurement allows coordinated management across trades, improving efficiency and ensuring long-term project resources. The contract also includes measurable sustainability requirements, including carbon-reduction measures in materials, logistics, and site operations.
The project will expand SPIE’s workforce and regional capacity in Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg, enabling structured planning for personnel and resources. This initiative aims to accelerate grid expansion while supporting Europe’s energy transition.
