Statkraft Moves Forward with 280 MW Gran Sul Wind Project in Brazil
Statkraft has approved an investment decision for the 280 MW Gran Sul onshore wind project in Brazil, moving the development into its execution phase. The project, located in Santa Vitória do Palmar in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, has completed required technical, environmental, and regulatory processes. Construction is scheduled to begin in January 2027.
The Gran Sul project will expand Statkraft’s renewable energy portfolio in Brazil, where the company currently operates across hydropower, wind, and solar energy.
Fernando de Lapuerta, Executive Vice President International at Statkraft, said:
“Brazil is an important market for Statkraft. Gran Sul fits well with our strategy to build scale in selected markets and develop a competitive renewable energy portfolio.”
He added:
“In Brazil, we combine hydropower, wind power and solar power to deliver reliable and competitive energy solutions that support the energy transition.”
Thiago Tomazzoli, Country Manager Brazil at Statkraft, said the investment reflects the company’s confidence in the Brazilian market and the country’s wind resources.
“The investment decision reflects our confidence in the Brazilian market and helps utilize the good wind resources in the country. The project will contribute to a more secure, competitive and sustainable power system.”
According to Statkraft, the project is also expected to support regional economic activity through job creation, local suppliers, and long-term investment in Rio Grande do Sul.
