Arevon’s Nighthawk Project Moves Forward in California
Arevon Energy has marked a major construction milestone for its 300 MW/1,200 MWh Nighthawk Energy Storage Project in Poway, California, which is designed to strengthen grid resilience and support renewable energy integration in the San Diego area.
The project will be capable of supplying power to up to 385,000 homes during peak electricity demand for four hours. Arevon developed the project and will own and operate the facility, while California-based Rosendin is handling construction.
Nighthawk represents a $600 million project and is expected to provide more than $30 million in local government payments over its lifetime, including an estimated $12 million for the City of Poway. Construction is expected to employ more than 130 workers at its peak.
The facility will connect to the grid at the Sycamore Canyon Substation at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. It will use lithium iron phosphate batteries, allowing electricity to be stored during lower-demand periods and released when demand rises.
Arevon also established a $2 million community fund for Poway and is supporting local organizations focused on public safety, youth development, community services and other initiatives.
The project is part of Arevon’s broader U.S. portfolio of utility-scale solar and energy storage developments.
