EBRD Backs Network Upgrade Programme in Romania
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has approved a RON 300 million ($65,2million) loan to Delgaz Grid SA to support the modernisation and digitalisation of electricity distribution infrastructure in north-eastern Romania.
The financing will contribute to Delgaz Grid's 2026-2030 capital investment programme, which includes network upgrades and the deployment of smart meters. The loan forms part of a larger RON 3 billion syndicated financing package arranged with six commercial banks.
According to the EBRD, the investment is expected to reduce electricity interruptions and network losses, improve system reliability and support the integration of additional renewable energy capacity in line with Romania's 2030 energy targets.
Delgaz Grid, part of the E.ON Group, operates electricity and natural gas distribution networks serving approximately 1.6 million electricity customers and more than 2 million gas customers across northern Romania.
The financing continues the long-standing partnership between the EBRD and one of Romania's largest distribution system operators as the country advances grid modernisation and energy transition objectives.
