EDP Renewables Completes Sandrini Energy Storage Project in California
EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA) and the Redwood Coast Energy Authority (RCEA) have completed the 92 MW/368 MWh Sandrini Energy Storage project in Kern County, California.
Co-located with the 300 MW Sandrini Solar project, the battery system is designed to improve grid reliability and make renewable electricity available during periods of high demand. RCEA has an energy storage service agreement covering the full battery capacity.
“Sandrini Energy Storage represents an important investment in California's energy future,” said EDPR NA CEO Sandhya Ganapathy. “Energy storage transforms renewable power into reliable, around-the-clock electricity, ensuring clean energy is available when demand is highest.”
RCEA Executive Director Beth Burks said the project will support the authority’s efforts to add clean generation capacity while enhancing the output of Sandrini Solar and supporting grid reliability.
The project is expected to generate more than $5 million in local revenue for public services and infrastructure. Construction supported about 50 jobs, while the wider Sandrini Solar and Energy Storage development supported approximately 250 jobs.
