LS ELECTRIC America Launches 245 kV and 362 kV Dead Tank Circuit Breakers

LS ELECTRIC America has introduced its Beyond X™ Dead Tank Circuit Breakers (DTBs) for 245 kV and 362 kV high-voltage applications, expanding its portfolio of equipment for utility substations.

The dead tank circuit breakers are designed with the interrupting chamber enclosed within a grounded metal tank, a configuration intended to contain energized components and reduce electrical hazards during operation and maintenance. The sealed design is also intended to protect internal components from environmental contamination.

According to the company, both the 245 kV and 362 kV models are rated for 63 kA short-circuit current, a 2-cycle interrupting time, and a 33.4 ms breaking time, using SF6 gas insulation and interruption technology to clear faults and support grid stability.

The platform offers rated continuous current options of 2,000 A, 3,000 A, 4,000 A, and 5,000 A, with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +50°C. The breakers are designed to meet IEEE 693-2005 High seismic requirements. The 245 kV version uses a common frame structure, while the 362 kV model is built with a separate frame structure.

The company states that the compact design is intended to support efficient substation layouts where space is limited. Integrated control systems provide monitoring and remote operation capabilities, while the construction is designed to reduce maintenance requirements and support long-term operation in high-voltage environments.
