Oman Plans 5.7 GW Solar and 2 GW Wind Power by 2030
Oman plans to add approximately 5.7 GW of solar power, more than 2 GW of wind generation and 1 GW of energy storage by 2030 as it diversifies its energy mix.
The expansion will create growing requirements for power transmission, grid infrastructure, substations and transformer capacity to integrate variable renewable generation.
Existing projects include the 500 MW Ibri II solar plant, commissioned in 2021, while its planned expansion includes 100 MWh of storage. Two additional solar plants totaling 1 GW began operating in Manah in January 2025.
Oman is also developing the nearly 1.98 GW Wadi Dhayka Hydro Pump pumped-storage project, with 17,970 MWh of storage capacity and up to nine hours of duration.
The country additionally plans seven green hydrogen projects targeting 1 million tonnes of annual production by 2030, while continuing oil and gas production.
