Slovenia Backs $202 Million Power Grid Modernisation Projects
The Slovenian Ministry of Environment, Climate and Energy announced support for six projects to upgrade the country’s electricity grid, totaling nearly €174 million ($202 million). Of this, approximately €59 million ($68.5 million) will come from the European Union Modernisation Fund.
The projects will be implemented by Elektro Ljubljana, Elektro Gorenjska, ELES, Elektro Celje, Elektro Maribor, and Elektro Primorska. The largest co-financed project, valued at €53.2 million ($61.7 million), is led by Elektro Ljubljana and targets improvements in urban distribution networks.
According to the ministry, these initiatives aim to increase grid capacity, enhance reliability, and accelerate integration of renewable energy sources. The funding aligns with the EU Modernisation Fund’s objectives, which include supporting energy efficiency, renewable energy generation, energy storage, and network modernisation.
Slovenia has over €300 million ($348 million) available from the fund through 2030 for projects focused on energy networks, renewable energy, and efficiency improvements.
The upgrades are part of broader efforts to strengthen Slovenia’s energy infrastructure and transition toward sustainable energy sources, improving both resilience and the ability to integrate renewable technologies into the national grid.
