HELLENiQ ENERGY Adds Over 400 MW in Renewables with Romanian and Bulgarian Projects

8 Aug 2025
HELLENiQ ENERGY Holdings S.A. has announced a significant expansion into Southeast Europe's renewable energy sector, with new acquisitions in Romania and a market entry into Bulgaria. The latest moves add over 400 MW to the group's renewable energy project portfolio, advancing its strategic goal of reaching 2 GW in installed capacity by 2030.

In Romania, HELLENiQ RENEWABLES ROMANIA S.R.L., a wholly owned subsidiary, has acquired ANSTHALL GREEN ENERGY S.R.L. from OX2 HOLDING NEW MARKETS AB. The project, located in the Galati region, has a capacity of 96 MW and is expected to begin operations in 2027. Over 50% of its production will be secured through a 12-year virtual PPA with KONINKLIJKE AHOLD DELHAIZE N.V.

A second Romanian project, in the Vaslui region, involves the acquisition of HELIOS & WIND ENERGY S.R.L., which holds a ready-to-build 186 MW wind project with an optional 186 MW/186 MWh battery storage system. The transaction is subject to Romanian FDI Committee approval.

In Bulgaria, HELLENiQ RENEWABLES BULGARIA EOOD has completed the purchase of AGRO NV PROPERTIES EOOD from ELEMENT POWER GROUP EOOD, gaining control of a 123 MWp photovoltaic project in the Haskovo region, with an optional 90 MW/180 MWh BESS.

In Greece, construction is set to begin in Q4 2025 on two battery storage projects in Florina, with a combined capacity of 50 MW (200 MWh), following selection in a national tender.

Following these developments, HELLENiQ ENERGY reports a total mature and operating RES portfolio of 1.5 GW, with over 6 GW under development, reinforcing its position in the regional transition to clean energy.
