High-voltage DC cable for DolWin6 fully installed and handed over to TenneT

16 Dec 2022

GERMANY - DolWin6 is scheduled to go into operation in 2023.

TenneT has announced that with the handover of the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cable for DolWin6, TenneT has come a big step closer to commissioning the offshore grid connection system.

According to Tennet, prior to this, supplier Nexans had taken the end piece of the 45-kilometer-long (28 miles) submarine cable from the seabed of the North Sea and installed it in the 56-meter-high (35 miles) offshore platform (DolWin kappa) of the grid connection in a multi-day operation in September and October.

According to the company, following the successful completion of the high-voltage tests, the 90-kilometer (56 miles) cable route between Emden and the offshore platform is now ready for transporting electricity. DolWin6 is scheduled to go into operation in 2023.

"DolWin6 is an important building block for the expansion of offshore energy infrastructure in Germany. Our grid connection systems bring green wind power from the North Sea safely and reliably from sea to land and strengthen Germany's energy independence," explains TenneT COO Tim Meyerjürgens. "The fact that we will be commissioning our 13th offshore grid connection in Germany in 2023 is a great success and the result of close cooperation with our strong project partners."
