Hitachi Energy Completes eks Energy Acquisition to Boost Storage Innovation

Hitachi Energy has completed the acquisition of the remaining shares in eks Energy, further cementing its position as a global leader in power conversion systems for energy storage.

 

The Swiss-based company, which initially acquired a majority stake in eks Energy in 2023, announced the full takeover on August 28, 2025. With over 4.5 GW of inverters deployed globally, eks Energy has been instrumental in renewable integration and power electronics innovation.

This strategic move comes as global energy systems are under pressure to accelerate the deployment of storage technologies. The International Energy Agency (IEA) forecasts a sixfold increase in storage capacity -- to 1,500 GW by 2030 -- to ensure grid reliability and support the global energy transition.

The acquisition will allow Hitachi Energy to integrate eks Energy's technologies more seamlessly, bolster its R&D at the Seville Center of Excellence, and deliver scalable energy storage solutions globally. The company's power conversion systems have played key roles in projects such as Australia's Waratah Super Battery, recently registered under the System Integrity Protection Scheme (SIPS).

Massimo Danieli, Managing Director of Hitachi Energy's Grid Automation Unit, said the acquisition strengthens the firm's market leadership and enables a more comprehensive portfolio combining converter technology, digital capabilities, and global delivery.

This acquisition underscores Hitachi Energy's commitment to energy storage as a cornerstone of grid modernization and decarbonization.
