Hitachi to Supply Grid Energy Storage Systems for Matsuyama Storage Plant

7 Aug 2023

Hitachi, Ltd. has secured an order for grid energy storage systems from Matsuyama Mikan Energy LLC, a collaboration between Shikoku Electric Power Company and CHC Japan K. K.

The systems will be installed at the newly established Matsuyama Storage Plant in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture. Hitachi Energy's e-mesh™ PowerStore™ battery energy storage system (BESS) will be utilized to stabilize power supply and demand, supporting Japan's push for carbon neutrality by 2050.

The initiative aims to address the challenge of integrating renewable energy into the grid due to supply-demand imbalances and weather-related fluctuations. The e-mesh PowerStore BESS offers efficient storage and discharge of electrical energy, responding swiftly to changes in power supply and demand. The project aligns with the Japanese government's target of achieving carbon neutrality and increasing renewable energy's share to 36-38% by 2030.

Hitachi Group's role includes project management, supply of e-mesh PowerStore BESS, and provision of substation facilities. By contributing to the expansion of renewable power sources and stable energy supply, Hitachi is driving the deployment of grid edge solutions, advancing Japan's transition to sustainable energy.
