HyperStrong and LEAG Sign EPC Deal for 1.6 GWh Battery Storage Project in Germany
HyperStrong Technology Co., LTD. and LEAG Clean Power GmbH have signed an EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contract for a 1.6 GWh utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) in Boxberg, Germany. Once completed, the project—known as GigaBattery Boxberg 400—is expected to become one of the largest battery storage facilities in Europe and a central component of LEAG’s broader GigawattFactory renewable energy strategy.
The project will use HyperStrong’s four-hour storage solution based on its HyperBlock III technology, which features liquid cooling, intelligent energy management, and enhanced safety systems designed for grid-scale use across varying climates.
According to Adi Roesch, CEO of LEAG Group, the system will support renewable integration and grid stability as Germany accelerates its energy transition. HyperStrong, which has deployed more than 45 GWh of storage capacity globally, will deliver the project as a full turnkey EPC contractor, including engineering, equipment supply, integration, commissioning, and long-term operational support.
Dr. Jianhui Zhang, Chairman and CEO of HyperStrong, said the partnership reflects joint efforts to advance Europe’s storage capacity and strengthen energy security. LEAG Clean Power CEO Thomas Brandenburg described the project as a landmark for European battery deployment.
