Iberdrola has officially inaugurated the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm, a 496MW project located off the coast of France. With an investment of €2.4 billion, the development of this significant renewable energy project began in 2012, and after three years of construction, it entered full operation in 2024. The farm features 62 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 8MW, making them the most powerful turbines installed in France to date.

The project supported over 1,700 jobs during its construction phase, with 500 of those positions created locally. Key industry players involved in the project include Siemens-Gamesa (wind turbines), the Navantia Windar consortium (foundations and transition pieces), Haizea (towers), Prysmian (cabling), and Van Oord (installation). In total, more than 150 European companies contributed to the delivery of the wind farm.

Ignacio Galán, executive chairman of Iberdrola, remarked that the Saint-Brieuc project not only lays the foundation for France's offshore wind sector but also demonstrates the significant potential of this technology to bolster energy security and contribute to Europe's industrial revitalization, aligning with climate goals.

Despite challenges such as adverse weather and difficult seabed conditions, the project was delivered on time. The development team utilized innovative methods for securing turbine foundations, overcoming the complexities of the region's hard basalt rock seabed.
