Innergex Expands Global Renewable Efforts with Solar Projects in Hawaii and France

15 Apr 2025
Innergex Renewable Energy, a Canada-based renewable energy developer, has recently announced the successful commercial operation of the Hale Kuawehi Solar and Battery Storage Project in Waimea, Hawaii, and the development of two agrivoltaic installations in Joux-la-Ville, France.

The Hawaii project, which went online on March 25, integrates 30 MW of solar photovoltaic capacity with 30 MW/120 MWh (4 hours) of battery storage, providing clean energy to the Hawaiian Electric grid. This marks the second solar-plus-storage project on Hawaii Island, helping to stabilize electricity costs and improve grid reliability. The energy produced will be sold under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Hawaiian Electric.

Meanwhile, in France, Innergex is progressing with its first agrivoltaic projects, contributing 32 MW of generation capacity as part of the Grenier des Essences portfolio. These projects, developed in collaboration with local farmers and government officials, focus on integrating renewable energy with agricultural practices. The installations aim to foster the growth of aromatic and medicinal plants, helping to diversify and strengthen the agricultural sector.

The French projects, set to be commissioned in 2027, will sell electricity under a 20-year PPA. Michel Letellier, President and CEO of Innergex, emphasized the company's commitment to integrating renewable energy with local agricultural realities, promoting more sustainable energy practices.

Innergex operates a portfolio of 90 facilities globally, with an installed capacity of 3,707 MW. The company continues to expand its operations in Canada, the U.S., France, and Chile.
