Leeward and Google Sign 724MW Solar PPA to Power Oklahoma Data Centers

17 Jan 2025
Leeward Renewable Energy (LRE) has entered a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Google to support the construction of six solar PV plants with a combined capacity of 724MW in Oklahoma. These facilities will supply clean energy to Google's data centers in the region, advancing the tech giant's goal to operate on carbon-free energy 24/7 by 2030.

The first projects under this agreement are the 372MW Mayes County Solar Portfolio, which includes the Salt Branch Solar (145MW), Huckleberry Solar (125MW), and Mayes Solar (102MW). These facilities are located within one mile of Google's data center in Pryor and were acquired from Red River Renewable Energy, a joint venture between SunChase Power and Eolian.

The energy will be delivered via firm transmission service to the Grand River Dam Authority (GRDA) to support Google's operations.

Additional projects include the Twelvemile Solar Projects 1 & 2 (152.5MW) and the Twelvemile 3 Solar Project (200MW), which further enhance the capacity of renewable energy serving Google's facilities.

Amanda Peterson Corio, Global Head of Data Center Energy at Google, stated: "These power purchase agreements demonstrate how our scalable procurement approach is transforming the acquisition of clean energy and accelerating the development of carbon-free energy sources."

This marks another step in the growing trend of technological companies investing heavily in solar PV to power their operations.
