LS Cable & System has signed a framework agreement with National Grid, the UK's power transmission network operator, to supply high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cables for large-scale infrastructure projects across mainland Britain and the North Sea region.

As part of National Grid's $27.5 billion (£21.3 billion) investment over the next eight years, the company has preselected six global suppliers, including LS Cable & System, for 15 cable supply and installation projects. Individual contracts for specific projects will be signed separately.

Through this agreement, LS Cable & System will supply submarine and underground HVDC cables and handle installation and connection work. The company is one of only six worldwide with HVDC cable supply experience and the sole provider from Korea.

"With supply falling short of demand, companies are proactively securing quantities in advance," an LS Cable & System official stated.

Since developing Korea's first HVDC cable technology in 2007, LS Cable & System has successfully completed all domestic HVDC projects and secured over $2.3 billion in international contracts, including deals in the UK and Germany.

The company is also expanding its global footprint, with plans to break ground on a submarine cable factory in Virginia, USA, in April, while actively pursuing opportunities in the UK, Vietnam, and beyond through partnerships with LS Eco Energy and LS Marine Solutions.
