LS Cable & System has announced the activation of a 3,000 kW solar power generation system at its submarine cable factory in Donghae, Gangwon. This milestone, revealed on April 7, is part of the company's broader effort to achieve carbon neutrality and strengthen its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices.

The solar system is expected to generate around 3,600 MWh of electricity annually, which is enough to power approximately 1,200 households. Over its lifetime, the initiative is projected to save LS Cable & System more than 7 billion won in electricity costs. The company views this as a significant step toward reducing energy expenses while promoting eco-friendly production.

This achievement follows LS Cable & System's December approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its carbon neutrality goals. The company's long-term roadmap targets net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The new solar system brings the Donghae factory closer to its goal of 100% renewable energy conversion.

A company representative emphasized the importance of this development: "Achieving the goal of 100% renewable energy conversion at the Donghae site is significant." LS Cable & System plans to extend its renewable energy adoption to other domestic and international sites to build a low-carbon supply chain that meets RE100 and SBTi standards.

The move reflects the company's commitment to sustainability and aligns with South Korea's energy policy to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
