Microsoft’s 408 MW Solar Project Goes Live in Texas
Primergy Solar has announced that its 408 MWac Ash Creek solar project in Hill County, Texas has officially reached commercial operation, marking a major addition to the ERCOT grid. The project is backed by a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Microsoft, helping support the tech giant's clean energy goals.
The large-scale solar farm is expected to contribute approximately $100 million in tax revenue over its lifespan, directly benefiting local schools and public services. The development also created 350 construction jobs and will maintain six full-time positions for ongoing operations.
Financing for the nearly $1 billion project was secured last year by Primergy Solar, with MUFG Bank, Ltd. and SMBC serving as lead arrangers. It included a mix of construction loans, tax equity, and credit facilities. Orion Power Generation, a joint venture between Orion Renewable Energy Group and Eolian, began developing the site in 2016 before it was acquired by Primergy in 2021. Solv Energy handled EPC duties.
This project adds to Texas's growing solar dominance. The state leads the nation with over 43.5 GW of installed solar capacity, powering more than 5 million homes and generating over 8% of the state's electricity from solar.
