Mississippi Welcomes EDP Renewables’ Pearl River Solar Park

12 Jul 2024
EDP Renewables North America LLC (EDPR NA) has inaugurated the Pearl River Solar Park in Scott County, Mississippi, solidifying its position as the largest solar park by generation capacity in the state. With an impressive 210 MWp (175 MWac) capacity, Pearl River is expected to power over 27,000 homes annually.

The park spans the northwest corner of Scott County, covering 600 acres and featuring 400,000 photovoltaic panels. This project not only supports local economic growth with more than $50 million in payments to local governments over its lifespan but also reinforces EDPR NA's commitment to sustainability. It will save Mississippi more than 222 million gallons of water annually and significantly reduce carbon emissions.

Former Mississippi Public Service Commissioner Brent Bailey praised the project's impact on the state's clean energy goals and economic development. Sandhya Ganapathy, CEO of EDPR NA, highlighted the significance of solar power in Mississippi's energy mix, emphasizing its contribution to grid reliability and decarbonization.

Additionally, EDPR NA is developing the Ragsdale Solar Park in Canton, Mississippi, which will further bolster local economies with over $36 million in government payments and $15 million to landowners over its lifespan.
