Mitsubishi Power, the power solutions brand of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), has been awarded a turnkey gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) contract to expand Taiwan's Tung Hsiao Power Plant with a total generation capacity of 2,800 MW.

The project, conducted jointly with CTCI Corporation, a major Taiwanese engineering and construction firm, comprises five new units with M501JAC gas turbines as the core technology. The total EPC contract value is approximately 760 billion yen (5.2 billion USD). Mitsubishi Power will supply gas turbines, steam turbines, and auxiliary equipment, while CTCI will handle construction and balance-of-plant work.

The new units are scheduled to come online sequentially between 2030 and 2031, following the first phase of the renewal plan, which included three units with M501J gas turbines supplied in 2013 and operational since 2018. The project aims to increase generation capacity, reduce environmental impact, and meet rising industrial and residential electricity demand in Miaoli County and surrounding regions.

Mitsubishi Power highlighted the longstanding partnership with CTCI and Taiwan Power as a key factor in securing the contract. The project supports Taiwan's net-zero goals while reinforcing the adoption of highly efficient and reliable gas turbine technology.

MHI Group stated that it will continue focusing on the global deployment of GTCC and other gas turbine solutions to ensure stable electricity supply and support energy decarbonization worldwide.
