Mitsubishi Power to Supply Gas Turbines for 3.6 GW Saudi Energy Project

31 Mar 2025
Mitsubishi Power, a division of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), has secured two major orders to supply six M501JAC gas turbines for Saudi Arabia's Rumah-1 and Al-Nairyah-1 Independent Power Plant (IPP) projects. Developed in partnership with Doosan Enerbility, the power plants will generate a combined 3.6 GW, covering nearly 2.5% of the national grid's capacity.

The projects, developed by a consortium of Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), ACWA Power Company, and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), are aligned with Saudi Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative. The power plants will provide grid stability while supporting the Kingdom's goal of integrating 50% renewable energy into its electricity generation mix by 2030.

The M501JAC turbines, known for their efficiency and operational flexibility, will be assembled and serviced locally at Mitsubishi Power's Dammam facility. The site prioritizes Saudi workforce development, supporting national talent through training programs.

Khalid Salem, President of Mitsubishi Power MENA, emphasized the project's role in ensuring reliable power generation and contributing to Saudi Arabia's decarbonization goals. The company has been active in Saudi Arabia for over 50 years, working with key stakeholders such as Saudi Aramco, SEC, and the Ministry of Energy.

These projects reinforce Mitsubishi Power's commitment to delivering hydrogen-ready solutions and supporting the Kingdom's low-carbon energy transition.
