Neoen Inaugurates Australia’s Largest Wind Farm, Goyder South
Neoen has officially opened its 412 MW Goyder South wind farm near Burra in South Australia's Mid North region, marking the largest project in both the state and the company's global portfolio. The two-stage development features 75 turbines and is expected to generate around 1.5 TWh of renewable electricity annually, increasing South Australia's wind generation by more than 20%.
The project supports South Australia's goal of achieving 100% net renewables by 2027 and is backed by three long-term power purchase agreements, including:
-
100 MW / 14-year deal with the Australian Capital Territory government
-
40 MW / 10-year agreement with Flow Power
-
70 MW renewable baseload contract with BHP for its Olympic Dam mine
Jean-Christophe Cheylus, CEO of Neoen Australia, praised the collaboration with landowners, government agencies, and partners including ElectraNet, AEMO, BHP, and Flow Power. South Australia's Minister for Energy and Mining, Tom Koutsantonis, called the project "at the vanguard" of the state's renewable ambitions.
Xavier Barbaro, CEO of the Neoen Group, emphasized the project's role in South Australia's net-zero journey and the value it brings to governments, customers, and communities. Goyder South created over 400 construction jobs, 12 permanent positions, contributed A$100 million to the local supply chain, and established a national park at Worlds End Gorge, alongside an annual A$250,000 community benefit program.
The project is part of the Goyder Renewables Zone, with the upcoming Goyder North wind farm and Goyder Battery expected to increase Neoen's total contribution to South Australia's clean energy transition to over 1.5 GW.
