Acciona Energía has commissioned the Forty Mile wind farm, a 280-megawatt (MW) project in Alberta, marking one of Canada’s ten largest wind power facilities and the company’s largest wind project in North America to date.
The wind farm consists of 49 Nordex turbines, each with a capacity of 5.7 MW and a hub height of 108 meters. According to Acciona Energía, the site will prevent approximately 600,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, equivalent to planting 25 million trees.
This project raises Acciona’s total installed wind capacity in Canada to 710 MW, up from 430 MW as of March 2025. While this is smaller than its U.S. portfolio, where the company operates nearly 2,600 MW, Canada remains a key market for growth.
In its Q1 2025 earnings update, Acciona Energía confirmed its EBITDA target of around $1.1 billion USD (€1 billion) by 2025. However, the company lowered its capital expenditure guidance for the year from approximately $1.65 billion USD (€1.5 billion) to $1.43 billion USD (€1.3 billion) due to uncertainties in the U.S. market, including delays in a Texas energy storage project. The target for new capacity installations in 2025 was also adjusted downward from 1,000 MW to 600 MW.
