Avangrid, Inc., a leading sustainable energy company and member of the Iberdrola Group, has announced the completion of the installation of approximately 105,000 solar modules at its Camino Solar project in California. This marks a significant milestone for Avangrid as it progresses into the next phase of construction for its first solar energy project in the state.
Pedro Azagra, Avangrid CEO, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “This is great progress for our first solar energy project in California, and I am happy to see us move into the next phase of construction. Projects like this are important economic drivers in their local communities, bringing jobs and generating tax revenue that wouldn’t be there otherwise.”
The Camino Solar project boasts a capacity of 44 MWac (57 MWdc) and is expected to generate enough energy to power approximately 14,000 average U.S. homes. The construction has already created around 100 jobs, predominantly filled by local residents, and is projected to generate about $15 million in state and local taxes over its lifetime.
While the installation of solar modules is complete, Avangrid will continue work on other components of the project, including collector systems, electrical wiring, and commissioning activities, with production expected to be connected to the grid next year.
Located adjacent to Avangrid’s 189 MW Manzana wind farm, which was built in 2012, the Camino Solar project utilizes both private land and over 200 acres of public land managed by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. Upon completion, Camino will be Avangrid's tenth solar project and its first in California.
