Duke Energy (NYSE: DUK) has received approval for its Green Source Advantage Choice (GSA-C) program in North Carolina, aimed at helping large businesses access renewable energy. The GSA-C program allows businesses to supplement their energy usage with 100% renewable, carbon-free generation. This initiative builds on the legacy Green Source Advantage program, which has successfully enabled companies to integrate decarbonization into their long-term business strategies.
"Green Source Advantage Choice builds upon the success of our legacy program," said Kendal Bowman, Duke Energy North Carolina state president. The new program increases capacity to up to 5,000 megawatts (MW), five times that of earlier versions, and allows businesses to pursue their sustainability goals by counting renewable energy generation towards their carbon reduction targets.
GSA-C features various options, including a 'Bring Your Own Purchased Power Agreement (PPA)' and a new 'easy option' for collaboration with Duke Energy on future projects. As a voluntary program, it is funded entirely by participating businesses, ensuring no additional costs for those opting out.
Duke Energy also plans to propose a community solar program, Clean Energy Connection, to further assist customers in achieving sustainability objectives. Similar programs are being developed in South Carolina.
