EDF Renewables North America has signed a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) for the 300 MW Milligan 1 Wind Project. The wind farm, located in Nebraska and operational since 2021, is owned, developed, and operated by EDF Renewables. This collaboration aims to support OPPD's renewable energy goals and provide sustainable power to Nebraska’s growing energy demands.
John Shultzabarger, Senior Director of Power Marketing at EDF Renewables, highlighted the significance of the partnership, noting that Milligan 1 will help OPPD reach its ambitious goals of doubling generation capacity by 2030 and achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
OPPD President and CEO Javier Fernandez emphasized the critical role of the Milligan 1 Wind Project in diversifying OPPD’s energy portfolio. He pointed out that adding renewable energy sources is essential to maintaining reliability as energy demand increases. Fernandez also noted that OPPD plans to add 3,200 MW of power generation by the end of the decade, with half coming from renewables.
This agreement aligns with broader industry efforts to transition to cleaner energy and expand renewable generation to meet future energy needs.
