EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA) and Arizona utility Salt River Project (SRP) have announced a collaboration to develop a 200-MW/800-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), named the Flatland Energy Storage project.
Scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2025, the project will be located near Coolidge, Arizona, within the 200-MW Brittlebush Solar Park. Once operational, Flatland will store surplus solar energy during low-demand periods, supplying electricity to over 45,000 homes during peak demand hours.
“This is the largest utility-scale storage project in the EDP group’s global portfolio," said Sandhya Ganapathy, COO of EDPR NA. “Energy storage is essential for modernizing the U.S. power grid, increasing renewable energy adoption, and enhancing grid reliability and resilience.”
