EDP Renewables North America LLC (EDPR NA), Salt River Project (SRP), and Meta have announced the opening of the Brittlebush Solar Park, a new 200 megawatt (MW) solar energy facility located near Coolidge, Arizona.
The park aims to support SRP’s efforts to decarbonize its energy portfolio and help Meta achieve its renewable energy and net-zero goals. Sandhya Ganapathy, CEO of EDPR NA, emphasized Arizona's ideal conditions for solar energy and the project's contribution to reducing carbon emissions and diversifying the state's energy mix.
The solar park will supply power to Meta’s data center in Mesa, AZ. This initiative is the third collaboration between EDPR NA and Meta, following previous projects such as the 100-MW West Line Solar Facility and the 300-MW Eleven Mile Facility.
In addition to advancing sustainability goals, Brittlebush is expected to provide substantial local economic benefits, including millions in payments to local governments and over 300 construction jobs, with more than five permanent positions for ongoing operations. Rick Miller, City Manager of Coolidge, noted the project's role in strengthening the local economy and enhancing Coolidge’s reputation in renewable energy development.
EDPR NA is expanding its footprint in Arizona with additional projects, including the 96 MW Table Top Solar Park and the 158 MW Sun Streams Solar Park, contributing to job creation and renewable energy capacity in the state.
SRP plans to double its generating resources over the next decade to meet rising energy demand while transitioning away from coal. The park adds to SRP’s commitment to renewable energy, with over 2,500 MW of carbon-free resources currently in service.
