EDP Renewables North America LLC (EDPR NA) has inaugurated the Sandrini I & II Solar Energy Park, a two-phase renewable energy project in Kern County, California. Together, the facilities will provide 300 MW of clean energy, enough to power over 76,000 homes annually.
Sandrini I delivers 200 MW under a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Shell Energy North America (SENA), while Sandrini II provides 100 MW to Redwood Coast Energy Authority (RCEA) through a similar PPA. Both phases were commissioned in Q4 2024.
The project supports local economic growth, having contributed over $510,000 in tax revenues and created 200 construction jobs and several permanent positions. Local landowners will receive approximately $15 million in lease payments.
For RCEA, Sandrini II supplies over one-third of Humboldt County's annual electricity needs, advancing its goal of achieving 100% renewable energy by 2030. The facility also supports California’s broader clean energy transition, complementing the 8,000 MW of clean energy resources brought online by the state’s Community Choice Aggregators (CCAs).
Environmentally, the project saves over 381 million gallons of water annually, aligning with Kern County’s conservation goals.
Sandhya Ganapathy, CEO of EDPR NA, stated, “Sandrini I & II exemplify EDP Renewables’ commitment to supporting California’s clean energy ambitions, contributing to the state’s 2045 target for 100% clean electricity.”
EDPR NA operates 488 MW of renewable capacity in California, including projects like the Rising Tree Wind Farm and the Scarlet Solar Energy Park, which integrates battery storage.
