Germany’s Ministry of Economy has allocated €588 million to two new H2Global tenders, strengthening partnerships with Canada and Australia to boost green hydrogen production and exports to Europe. The initiative is part of a €1.2 billion funding program, with Canada contributing CAD 300 million (€208 million) and Australia providing €200 million.
H2Global, managed by Hintco, uses a double-auction model where green hydrogen is purchased from producers and resold within the European Union. Public subsidies bridge the price gap, making green hydrogen more competitive and accessible.
The funding aims to establish international hydrogen hubs, reduce production costs, and accelerate Europe’s energy transition. Earlier challenges, such as geographical restrictions on production sites, will be addressed to encourage broader participation in the tenders.
The program aligns with Germany’s broader strategy to import 50–70% of its hydrogen needs by 2030. Future collaborations include a €3 billion joint project with the Netherlands, recently approved by the European Commission.
With a €3.53 billion budget earmarked for green hydrogen imports from 2027 to 2036, Germany continues to lead the global push toward sustainable energy while solidifying trade ties with strategic partners.
