GIGA Storage, a leading battery storage developer in the Netherlands and Belgium, has secured approximately €300 million in financing to start construction on its "GIGA Leopard" project. The project entails a 300 MW / 1.2 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) located in Delfzijl, Groningen, and is expected to be operational by the second half of 2027.
The financing package, arranged as a club deal with eight European lenders, reflects strong market confidence in GIGA Storage’s utility-scale storage projects. The Leopard facility will be connected to the high-voltage grid operated by TenneT and will support renewable energy integration by providing energy storage capacity equivalent to powering all Dutch households for over 30 minutes.
GIGA Storage aims to facilitate the energy transition and grid stability by deploying scalable battery storage solutions that enhance the flexibility and resilience of power systems. The company is also developing additional large-scale projects, including the 700 MW / 2.8 GWh "GIGA Green Turtle" project in Belgium, which is set to become one of Europe’s largest battery storage assets.
InfraVia Capital Partners, the majority shareholder since mid-2024, praised the successful financing round and highlighted their continued support for GIGA Storage’s pipeline of projects across Europe.
