Bp and Iberdrola have awarded a contract to Imefy, a Toledo-based company, to manufacture and supply the main transformer for Spain’s largest green hydrogen production plant. The 25 MW facility, located at bp’s refinery in Castellón, is a major step in Spain’s transition to renewable energy.
Imefy, headquartered in Los Yébenes, will deliver a 37 MVA three-phase power transformer with a 66/30 kV transformation ratio. The equipment is expected to be supplied in early 2026, with the plant becoming operational in the second half of the year.
This collaboration highlights bp and Iberdrola’s commitment to strengthening Spain’s renewable hydrogen supply chain. With an investment exceeding €70 million, the project aims to support decarbonization in sectors like ceramics, chemicals, and heavy transport. The green hydrogen produced could replace natural gas in high-emission industries, boosting Spain’s sustainability efforts.
