ScottishPower has finalized a major $1.26 billion turbine supply contract with Siemens Gamesa for its East Anglia TWO offshore windfarm, a $5 billion project set to produce enough clean energy to power nearly one million UK homes. The agreement includes 64 SG 14-236 DD turbines with 236-meter rotors, which will be built at Siemens Gamesa’s Hull factory, a facility that now supports 1,300 local jobs.
Located 33 kilometers off the Suffolk coast, East Anglia TWO will add 960 MW of renewable energy capacity to the UK’s grid as part of ScottishPower’s broader goal to double its investment in UK renewables to $30 billion between 2024 and 2028. Siemens Gamesa’s turbine blades, each measuring 115 meters, are set to drive economic growth and job creation in Hull, contributing to the UK’s clean energy expansion and supporting the government’s Clean Power Mission.
The project follows the recent success of East Anglia TWO in the UK Government’s Contracts for Difference Allocation Round 6, aligning with Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s vision for the UK to become a global clean energy superpower. Starmer emphasized that projects like East Anglia TWO are critical to energy security, climate protection, and job creation across the UK.
Keith Anderson, CEO of ScottishPower, highlighted that the East Anglia projects are pivotal in meeting the UK’s ambitious green energy targets, fostering a reliable UK supply chain, and bolstering Siemens Gamesa’s investment in Hull.
