Scout Clean Energy marked a significant milestone with the completion of its first-ever solar energy project, the 209 MWdc Markum Solar Farm, located in Bosque and McLennan Counties, Texas. The farm is now generating enough power for approximately 32,000 homes annually and provides a sustainable contribution to the ERCOT grid.
The event, held to celebrate the project’s commercial operation, was attended by key stakeholders and the Linn family, who originally self-developed the project before Scout acquired it in 2021. The farm combines clean energy with agricultural innovation, as the Linn family integrated sheep grazing as a form of vegetative management on the solar site. This effort represents their commitment to merging agriculture with renewable energy.
“We couldn’t be prouder of achieving commercial operations on our first solar project,” said Michael Rucker, Founder and CEO of Scout Clean Energy. The project’s completion followed 13 months of construction, a collaboration with Mortenson, and a focus on safety, completing the work with zero recordable incidents.
Colgate-Palmolive, which signed a power purchase agreement for the Markum Solar Farm’s energy, was also present at the ceremony. The agreement supports Colgate-Palmolive’s goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040 and transition to 100% renewable electricity by 2030.
The success of the Markum Solar Farm highlights Scout Clean Energy’s ongoing commitment to clean energy and sustainable practices, with an active development pipeline of approximately 19,000 megawatts of renewable projects across the U.S.
