Siemens and CPFL Energia, one of Brazil’s leading electricity distributors, have announced a partnership to implement an ambitious smart metering project in São Paulo. By 2029, CPFL Energia will replace 1.6 million conventional meters with Siemens’ cutting-edge Gridscale X Meter Data Management (MDM) software. This digital transformation aims to improve grid management, enhance operational efficiency, and support Brazil’s energy transition efforts.
The smart metering technology will allow consumers to monitor their energy consumption in real-time, reducing costs and promoting sustainable energy use. Additionally, it will improve the detection of energy losses, optimize grid performance, and enable more accurate billing through automated data processing.
Evaldo Baldin, CPFL Energia’s Engineering Director, emphasized that the project aligns with future regulatory demands while improving the consumer experience by offering a transparent, connected, and higher-quality service.
Sabine Erlinghagen, CEO of Siemens Grid Software, added that the digitalization initiative would lead to more sustainable energy management and a reliable energy supply for consumers while reducing carbon emissions.
With this collaboration, Siemens and CPFL Energia are taking a major step toward creating a smarter, more efficient, and sustainable electricity grid for Brazil’s 10.7 million customers.
