The Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband, and the Head of Mission Control for Clean Power 2030, Chris Stark, visited Siemens Gamesa’s Hull facility to spotlight the UK’s clean energy initiatives.
Hosted by Plant Director Andy Sykes and VP Finance UK&I Ross Dean, the delegation toured the site, engaging with apprentices and staff while observing the offshore wind blade manufacturing process. The visit underscores the facility's role in advancing the UK’s clean power action plan, which aims to solidify the country’s position as a global leader in renewable energy.
During the event, Ed Miliband detailed updates on the UK's clean power roadmap, highlighting collaboration with industry leaders like Siemens Gamesa. The Hull factory has manufactured over 2,300 offshore wind blades to date, currently producing for RWE’s Sofia offshore wind farm.
With over 10 GW of offshore wind capacity installed in the UK, Siemens Gamesa contributes nearly 70% of the country’s operational wind power. Facilities like Hull, employing 1,300 local residents, are pivotal in driving the energy transition and delivering world-leading wind farms such as Ørsted's Hornsea 1 & 2 and Scottish Power's East Anglia 1.
This visit highlighted the shared commitment to renewable energy and regional development, reinforcing Hull’s place at the heart of the UK’s offshore wind industry.
