Iberdrola, a global leader in the energy sector, has unveiled a bold $44,3 billion (€41 billion) investment plan aimed at accelerating electrification, boosting renewable energy capacity, and reinforcing network infrastructure. This strategic move underscores the company's commitment to driving the transition towards a greener and more sustainable energy future.
At the heart of Iberdrola's strategy lies a firm focus on networks, with 60% of the total investment dedicated to expanding and strengthening grid infrastructure in key markets such as the US, UK, Brazil, and Spain. This significant investment in networks is crucial for supporting the growing demand for electricity driven by decarbonization efforts across various sectors, including industry, transportation, and buildings.
Renewable energy remains a core pillar of Iberdrola's strategy, with over $16,7 billion (€15,5 billion) earmarked for investments in this sector. More than 50% of this investment will go towards offshore wind projects, further solidifying Iberdrola's leadership position in this rapidly growing segment. Additionally, the company plans to reinforce its storage capacity, with a $1,6 billion (€1.5 billion) investment aimed at enhancing system stability and reducing volatility in margins.
In line with its commitment to sustainability and social responsibility, Iberdrola's investment plan includes initiatives to create 10,000 new jobs by 2026 and prioritize diversity and equality within its workforce. The company also aims to achieve zero emissions in electricity generation by 2030, further contributing to global efforts to combat climate change.
Ignacio Galán, Executive Chairman of Iberdrola, emphasized the unstoppable nature of electrification and its pivotal role in driving decarbonization and energy security. He stated, "Our strategic pillars focus on networks, geographical diversification, and a balanced energy and customers mix. This plan will allow us to grow our asset base, profitability, and strengthen our finances, while increasing dividends and driving economic growth."
Iberdrola's ambitious investment plan signals a firm commitment to leading the charge towards a more sustainable and electrified future, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change and secure a cleaner, greener planet for future generations.
