TagEnergy and Harmony Energy have announced the completion and activation of the Jamesfield Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Located near Abernethy, Scotland, this 49MW/98MWh standalone project is a testament to the ongoing commitment to clean energy infrastructure.
The project, which came online progressively starting in November 2023, reached full capacity in early February 2024 upon the completion of its construction. Utilizing 2-hour duration Tesla Megapack lithium-ion batteries and Tesla's Autobidder AI software for real-time trading and control, the Jamesfield BESS is poised to play a crucial role in stabilizing the grid and advancing the energy transition.
Franck Woitiez, CEO of TagEnergy, emphasized the significance of this achievement, stating, "This is another important marker for TagEnergy in the UK and beyond as we leverage our substantial storage expertise to help stabilize the grid and make a meaningful difference to the planet by relentlessly pursuing a renewables-led energy future."
Peter Kavanagh, CEO of Harmony Energy, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the vital role of battery energy storage systems in advancing the Net Zero transition and securing the future stability of the UK's energy supply. The completion of the Jamesfield BESS adds to Harmony Energy's operational portfolio, now exceeding 500MW/1GWh.
The Jamesfield development, initially a joint venture with Harmony Energy, saw TagEnergy's acquisition of a 60% stake in November 2021, with support from Santander UK. This marks TagEnergy's third investment in operational battery storage facilities in the UK, alongside Hawkers Hill Energy Park and Chapel Farm, contributing to a secured portfolio of 320MW/640MWh in the UK to date.
